Together, We Can Continue to Changes the Lives of Youth in Rural America

Tiny Mighty and Strong's mission: to empower youth to live fulfilling lives through health education.

Who is TMS?

Tiny, Mighty and Strong (TMS) was founded in 2019 to provide local, affordable, quality youth development programs for youth Kindergarten-12th grade. Our six rural communities in Northern California and Southern Oregon are: Tulelake, Newell, Dorris and Macdoel, California and Merrill & Malin, Oregon. Demographically, our communities have a median population of 1,000, median income of $30,000/year, 72% of our communities are LatinX, and 88% of our families qualify for free and reduce lunch program.

Our Programs:

Our trauma-informed, youth-led organization creates a culture of care through our organizational pillars and core values. Annually, we provide:

  • 20 weeks of after-school enrichment programs for youth Kindergarten-6th grade
  • 20-day Summer Camps in Tulelake and Dorris
  • Integrated school-district socio-emotional support
  • Junior High and High School Teen Centers in Tulelake and Dorris
  • Teen Internship Programs
  • Community Food and Clothing Distribution
  • Community Engagement Events

Our organizational pillars:

  • Mental and Emotional Health
  • Leadership Development
  • Fitness and Nutrition

Our pillars are what we do to improve every child's self-efficacy and development in a safe environment connected to caring adults.

Our core values:

  • Safety
  • Courage
  • Love
  • Empowerment
  • Service

These core values are how we build community within our programs. Our core values encourage students to take action and reflect on how we demonstrate these values to self and others.

We believe in that a safe physical and emotional environment allows them to build their resiliency through courage, cultivating love amongst participants and adults, empowering youth to share what they have learned with others and ultimately increasing their intrinsic desire to serve others and self.

Our Impact:

Previous fiscal year, September 1, 2022-August 31, 2023, the organization served 614 unduplicated youth, 10,440 total touch points with youth, averaging a 97% program retention rate.

We employ over 30 teens annually to mentor youth in our programs, we have distributed over 15,000 healthy lunches and snacks to students, provided over 7,000 pounds of healthy food boxes to families, and have supported over 120 families with basic needs: clothing, food and heat resources.

Why support TMS?

We create stronger communities by delivering life changing youth development care. We believe to uplift our communities, every family should have equitable access to affordable youth development programs and community resources that build their holistic health through tailored services and programs that cultivate each individuals mind, body, soul and spirit.
