TMS Community Support Campaign

Organizational Update

TMS has endured significant financial challenges this year. Due to changes in state budgets and federal budgets, TMS has been forced to restructure programs to stay in operation. 80% of our annual operating budget is reliant on county, state and federal funding, and 100% of our afterschool programs are supported through grant based funding. As it stands today, all of our kinder-6th grade afterschool and summer programs are on hold, pending budget approvals and reallocated grant funding.

We are not alone in this struggle. Nearly 30% of small non-profits throughout the United States are on the verge of closing their doors due to these funding deficits. We are all collaborating and working to ensure that much needed non-profits in the region are able to continue to positively impact their communities.

These changes have been completely unanticipated, and devastating. Regardless of how hard the struggle is, our team continues to adapt and adjust to meet the needs of our service communities: Dorris, Macdoel, Tulelake and Newell, CA and Merrill and Malin, OR, with available funding.

Program Impact

In our 2024/2025 fiscal year, we accomplished:

-96% organizational retention rate

-28 weeks of afterschool programs, averaging 35 participants per day

-20 day summer camp, averaging 97 unique participants per day

-38 7-12th grade students were provided a paid internship program

-360 unique youth served, 110 unique families

-120 families have received food boxes and thrift store resources

Our regional impact is undeniable. Our families need additional resources and support, and we have been able to meet their needs year after year, and the hope is that our work will be able to continue for years to come.

Program Adjustments

We currently have funding to continue our teen center programs, that serve 6-12th grade, in both Tulelake and Dorris will continue to operate as funding is allocated. We will continue to provide community based resources like food boxes, thrift store and provide support to families will federal aide applications. To stay in operation, the organization has done the following:

-We had to pause our 2025 Fall afterschool programs and reduced our staff by 30%.

-Reduce overhead by 15%

-Increase networking and collaborations throughout Modoc, Siskiyou and Klamath County to increase revenues coming into the organization.

It would be amiss to say that organization is going to be able to weather this storm fully.

The Ask

We are reaching out to generous individuals in our network to help us raise $60,000 to ensure we can keep our doors open until March 2026, and we will be able to run a Spring afterschool program session in Tulelake. By then, we will be reimbursed by the State of CA for an existing grant and our hope is that the federal budget approval will release funding that TMS will be able to apply for and receive.

We are hopeful that our kinder-6th grade programs can and will be reinstated in 2026, but we can't do it alone. We need your generosity, sharing our posts and information and partnering with us in a multitude of ways to continue to impact the lives of youth and families in our rural region.

Sponsorships

Any individual/business that would like to partner with TMS as a sponsorship level of $5,000 or greater, please reach out to Amy Frey directly for a tailored sponsorship package.

We would be honored to have individuals/businesses partner with us at a high sponsorship level, to ensure that the organization won't be as impacted by federal decisions in the future.
